Since my wife got pregnant I've found myself retelling the same stories over and over again. A friend suggested creating a blog because he thinks the stories are pretty funny. So do I, but then, right now I'm only telling the funny ones.
In any case, a blog might reduce the number of times I tell the stories. My wife is already beginning to roll her eyes when she hears one of them begin, and we're not even three months in yet. Like she does when we hang out with my friends from college.
A guy walks into a bar that he's never been to before. Everyone else in the place seems to know
each other, but they're friendly, so he sits at the bar and asks for a beer. Partway through the beer someone down a few seats down from him shouts out "23" and the whole place cracks up.
A few minutes later someone behind him shouts out "7", and again, the whole place cracks up.
The new guy asks the bartender "What's with the numbers? Why are they funny?"
The bartender explains "Most everyone in here has been coming in for years, drinking and telling the same old jokes. A while back someone suggested just numbering the jokes to save time."
"Huh," says the new guy, "could I try it?"
"Go ahead" says the bartender.
The new guy takes the last swallow of his beer and shouts "14!".
The place remains silent, and people are now staring at the new guy like he walked in in his boxers.
The bartender shrugs and says "I guess some people just can't tell a joke."
That's an old one, and I certainly didn't come up with it. It's what I'm hoping this blog will help me to avoid. I actually can tell a joke, most of the time, but hopefully this will help me tell them less...
For a while I'll be publishing the background that got us here, as well as whatever happens that's interesting as (or shortly after) it happens.
One more thing...
Kate is an intensely private person. I'm not going to talk about her much at all. That's out of respect for her privacy. Of course, she's the one that's firsthand pregnant, so she'll be in here some, but she'll probably be really mad at me if I talk about her too much.

This is the account of my experience of my wife's pregnancy with our first, and now second, child. Mostly so friends and family can get updates if they want to know what's going on, but anyone's welcome to read it. I will not update it on any particular schedule, and the only thing you should assume from the absence of an update for a while is that either nothing interesting has happened, or I'm too busy to update.
