I haven't updated in a while because not much of note has happened since the CPR class.
EM is definitely showing now. Not a lot, and if you didn't know Kate you might not notice it at all, but if you do it's pretty visible. She's pretty thin normally, so while she thinks the baby is making her look like she's a fit woman that doesn't do core strength training, I think she looks like a fit woman about half way through pregnancy.
We're almost exactly half way. I'm pretty certain that this week is four and a half months. Of course, that's presuming that EM is going to be cooperative and follow the normal rules of these things.
Not likely, but we'll say half way anyhow because the whole due date thing seems to be pretty arbitrary.
Kate had her first hormonal melt down this week. The things she was upset over were legit things to be upset over, but her reaction was pretty out of proportion to the severity. Then, when it became clear that her hormones were making her more upset in a way that she couldn't control, that made it worse yet. So it was a meltdown that chased itself into a worse meltdown. She was very worried after that that she was regularly being intolerably hormonal, but she really isn't. I'm not just saying that, she doesn't even read this regularly. She really hasn't been intolerably hormonal. In fact, I think she's handling stuff very well.
This has been a pretty challenging week health-wise. Fall in Madison is bad allergy season, and Kate has bad allergies (yes, for those that didn't know, she is a veterinarian that's allergic to small furry animals). She's trying to avoid taking medication, and has been successful at that, so far, but she's been sneezing an awful lot.
We saw a pretty good movie this week: Away We Go. We rented it. It's a little indy comedy about a couple who are six months pregnant and traveling around the country trying to decide where to live. The traveling bit is a plot device to display caricatures of different parenting styles in the form of the family and friends that they visit. It's well acted, well written, and very funny in places. And it showed us what kind of parents not to be. Not that I think we're going to be horrifying in some stereotypical way (if we're horrifying it's more likely to be in some completely unique way).
We also bought an organic cotton crib mattress from Costco this week. Kate has this Consumer Reports style book (Consumer Reports doesn't publish it, but it's the same sort of thing) that rates baby products, and this one was highly rated and way less expensive than any other we've seen. One more thing out of the way. Tomorrow we're going to look at paint for the baby's room. Some gender neutral color, but no idea which one.
