Quick Update

We saw the nurse practitioner this morning.  Everything is good.  Kate's belly measures 20 centimeters right now, which is a bit ahead of schedule, but within normal.  We got to hear EM's pulse, but not the heartbeat itself. The baby wasn't cooperating positionally, so the Doppler couldn't get to the heart.  In any case, everything is normal and on-track so far.
Kate seems to be over her cold, and she got the vaccine for the H1N1, which is good because she's getting exposed to it quite a bit via clients.  And I work in a high risk environment at the University, though I don't really come into contact with students much.
We did some work on the basement, getting it ready for the contractors to come in to install a bathroom and some stuff.  We ripped up the old flooring, which had gotten wet and moldy when our old gutters leaked.  I hauled it all outside, so now we have a pile of moldy bamboo flooring outside.
Last week we picked up what we're hoping will be a completely dog proof container for the dirty diapers.  Kate's been having this nightmare about Spenser eating a dirty diaper.  That's entirely well within the realm of possibility for Spenser, who once ate Kate's checkbook and then passed it intact (Really.  We found it in the yard crumpled but intact).  Over the last few years she's operated on dogs that ate a dirty diaper from time to time, and it never goes well, it's almost always fatal.  So, that's no good, but hopefully this thing will do the trick.  It's pretty complicated and has this mechanism that keeps the liner with the diapers out of contact with anything.  I have no doubt that Spenser could figure it out, but I think that it would take him long enough that we'd interrupt him.
We got our organic crib mattress delivered, now we're looking on Craigslist for a crib.
And the paint saga continues.  We found a different store in town that has a much broader option of no-VOC paint than Home Depot (you getting that Michael?).  We've been painting samples on the wall.  Kate wants to have this decided before November 4th, which is when we learn the sex, but that's looking more and more unlikely.  Knowing us we'll probably end up with something by attrition right before leaving for the appointment.
Oh, and Kate's friend Julie gave us a hardbound copy of the Winnie the Pooh stories by AA Milne.  Thanks Julie!  That's really cool.  I still remember where I was the day that I heard that Christopher Robin Milne had died.  I always thought that Winnie was sort of a candy ass, but I liked Christopher Robin and Tigger.
Next ultrasound is on November 4th, coming up on 20 weeks now...

  1. Did you write any checks with the semi-digested checkbook? Because, you know, that'd be funny.

    Cough.

    Home Depot.

  2. Personally, I think using those checks would be kind of shitty. (sorry kate) or is that "excuse me kate"
